Richard Kilty shot to world fame yesterday in what was a ‘Dream Come True’ for the Teeside Tornado.

After being initially selected as a reserve, Richard was called up to Team GB for his Senior Major Championship debut and delivered Team GB’s only gold medal of the championships winning the 60m title in a fantastic personal best time of 6.49sec smashing the club record which was held by another world champion in Jonathon Edwards.

Richard said he will now turn his attention to the track and the European & Commonwealth Games in 2014 and we wish him the best of luck and hope he will bring more medals back home to the north east.

Here’s his post race interview with the IAAF:

Former Gateshead Harrier Gerald Phiri now representing Zambia also made the final finishing in 5th place.
