Due to weather conditions this popular Race had to change it’s venue at the last minute, but the revised Course proved to be equally as fast and competitive as the original one.

All the Races had 3 members in each team running a distance of approx 3000m each, the Veteran Men were first to race with Steve Wellings, David Herring and Malcolm Thirlaway running for the club, unfortunately a few of our Vets were running the Brass Monkey Half Marathon on the same day which meant we just had the one team but they ran well in a very competitive race with Malcolm Thirlaway clocking 3rd fastest time in his age group.

The Senior and Vets Ladies were well represented with 4 Teams competing, the “A” Team consisting of Sophie Wickham, Gillian Manford and Mary Ferrier finished in 2nd position which was a great performance with a number of clubs being able to turn out 3 good runners. The “B” Team which consisted of Charlotte Wickham, Liz Raven and Sarah Hill pushed the “A” Team all the way and finished a very creditable 4th position, which just shows our strength, the other 2 Ladies Teams were mixed Vets and they also performed really well in the same race, where over 80 Teams competed. Mary Ferrier (4th) and Charlotte Wickham (10) were ranked in the top 10 fastest times of the day and Maggie Lorraine had fastest time in her age category, so well done Ladies. Good to see Charlotte Wickham back racing again in a club vest, although living in Ireland it is hoped that she will compete in a few races for the club during the coming year.

The Senior Men also had 4 Teams competing in their Race where again the “A” Team(Conrad Franks, James Cripwell, Chris Parr) & “B” Team (Sean Hall, Lawrence McCourt, Dan Johnson) had a good battle with the “A” Team finishing 4th and “B” Team finishing 8th, with Chris Parr running the 3rd fastest time of the day. Although it must be said that the team which won was a composite Team from Durham Uni.
So a positive start to 2017 with lots going on over the coming couple of months, with a lot of our younger athletes concentrating on the Schools Championships, and hopefully our Ladies and Men’s Team can move on as well starting with the Signals Road Relays on February 18th, lets see another good turn out.

John
