Youth Development League (YDL) Survey
The YDL is the National League for age group athletes. There are two different age groups in the YDL – Lower Age Group (LAG) for U13 and U15 athletes and the Upper Age Group (UAG) for athletes in the U17 and U20 age groups.
We are keen to find out what athletes in your region feel about the YDL Upper Age Group (UAG) competition. The YDL is working with the National Council of England Athletics on this survey.
We are contacting athletes registered with England Athletics in clubs that compete in the Northern Premier divisions (a similar exercise is planned for Scotland). By contacting you directly we want you to feel that your personal opinion is being taken into account.
We have included in the survey athletes who may be too young to compete in the UAG this year but may do so in future, as well as those who can currently compete. We have a few questions below that we would like you to answer. All completed surveys will be entered into a prize draw with three cash prizes of £50 each.
The YDL Upper Age Group (UAG) Northern region is made up of clubs from the North of England, North Wales and Scotland; the Premier 1 division currently consists of three clubs from England and three from Scotland with three matches held in England and one in Scotland. Premier 2 division consists of six English clubs from the North East and North West.
Another way of organising competition could be to further divide the region into more localised areas, for example North West England and North Wales in one area, Yorkshire and North East England combined to make a second area and Scotland to become a separate third area. Qualification for the National Finals would have to be looked at, but may be decided on the basis of best performances achieved by each club in their own area matches.
